What is Angina?

Angina is a pain commonly felt in the chest and is usually caused by Coronary Heart Disease. It is most common in people over 50 but can also affect younger people and men are more likely than woman to suffer from Angina.

Angina doesn’t always come in the form of chest pain or chest tightness, it can also occur in the arms neck jaw or stomach and last about 5 – 10 minutes provided you rest.

Causes of Angina

Angina is usually caused by Coronary Heart Disease or Blocked or Narrowed Arteries this means that there isn’t enough blood (carrying oxygen) getting to the Heart. This is usually not a problem while you’re resting but if you exert yourself your Heart needs to work harder and therefore needs more oxygen.

There are other triggers as well as over exertion that can bring on an Angina attack for example smoking, very hot or cold temperatures, Anxiety or panic attacks.

Angina and its affects on Travel Insurance
