Atrial Fibrillation – General information

Atrial Fibrillation or Irregular Heartbeat (Arrhythmia) is a Heart condition which causes episodes of a fast heart rate. An average heart rate should be around 60 to 80 beats a minute while resting. With Atrial Fibrillation (AF) the heart rate can be anything from 140 to 180 beats per minute.
AF can affect adults of any age but is more common the older you get, it typically affects men more than women.

Atrial Fibrillation – Symptoms

Atrial Fibrillation can present itself in many different ways and sometimes there are no symptoms at all, some possible symptoms include:

  • Palpitations (Irregular Heartbeat)
  • Chest pain (Angina)
  • Lack of energy/tiredness
  • Breathlessness
  • Dizziness
