What is a pre-existing medical condition?
Freedom’s definition of a pre-existing medical condition is as follows:
a) Any respiratory condition (relating to the lungs or breathing), heart condition, stroke, or cancer for which you have ever received treatment (including surgery, tests or investigations by your doctor or a consultant/specialist and prescribed drugs or medication).
b) Any medical condition for which you have received surgery, in-patient treatment or investigations in a hospital or clinic within the last twelve months.
c) Any medical condition for which you are taking prescribed drugs or medication.
Can you provide cover for a condition that has not yet been diagnosed?
No, we can only screen a condition that have been diagnosed by the medical profession we cannot provide a quote or offer cover until such time as your condition has been diagnosed.
I am taking medication to control my condition do I still need to declare it?
Yes if you are taking medication for something you will need to declare the condition as it would fall into Freedom’s definition of a pre-existing medical condition.
If a close relative who lives in the UK who has a pre-existing medical condition is taken ill whilst I am on holiday can I return home?
We cannot offer cover for a non traveling relative in relation to a pre-existing medical condition (at time of taking policy out), you will however be covered for any unexpected illness of a non traveling relative.
Do all travellers, including those without pre-existing medical conditions, need to be insured on the same policy?
No, not everyone needs to be on the same policy but it is advisable to ensure everyone traveling is fully covered in relation to other peoples pre-existing medical condition.
What is the age limit for a Single-trip policy?
The maximum age for a single trip with Freedom is 85 years old.
What is the age limit on the Annual Multi-trip policy?
The maximum age for an annual policy with Freedom is 75 years old
What is the maximum trip duration on Annual Multi-Trip policies?
As standard the maximum trip duration on an annual policy is 31 days, however this can be extended to 45 days depending on individual circumstances.
Do you cover one-way trips?
No, Freedom specializes in holiday insurance and can only cover trips from the UK back to the UK.
I am on a waiting list for an operation, can you still offer cover?
Freedom Insurance can not offer cover for anyone awaiting surgery, in-patient treatment or investigations in a hospital or clinic.
Can I get my money back if I want to cancel?
Yes by law you have a 14 day cooling off period with any insurance in which you can cancel and get a full refund provided you haven’t traveled or claimed.
Why do I need cover for my existing medical condition?
If you do not have adequate cover for your existing medical condition you will not be covered for any claims under the Cancellation or Curtailment, Medical Expenses, Hospital Benefit and Personal Accident sections if they arise directly or indirectly as a result of the pre-existing medical condition.
In a few week’s time I will have finished my treatment, can I say ‘no’ to the question concerning ongoing treatment?
No, questions must be answered correctly at the date of taking the policy out,
Can we exclude baggage from the policy?
Baggage can be excluded from the policy and will result in a lower premium if you elect not to cover it.
When I’m on holiday I would like to hire a motor bike. Would my travel insurance policy provide adequate cover?
The Freedom policy would cover this as standard provided you hold a full UK license, however you will not be covered for liability cover.
I am interested in purchasing travel insurance but as I am not a UK National I do not know whether there are any suitable policies available?
Freedom Insurance can only cover for people who are a permanent resident in the UK registered with a medical practitioner in the United Kingdom.
Will I be paying a high premium because of my medical condition?
All premiums are based on individual circumstances, depending on the medical condition there may be an additional charge to cover it.
I didn't have time to book my travel insurance policy before I departed, Can I arrange cover now, even though I am abroad?
Unfortunately not, we cannot offer somebody who has already started there trip.
Can I include other members of my family on my policy?
Yes of course, any one travelling with you can be covered on the same policy, we advise this as it means everyone is covered as a group.
If I buy a group or couple policy, are we covered when travelling alone?
On an annual policy individuals are covered for their own trips even if the policy is a group or couple policy, children under 18 must be accompanied by a named adult on the same policy.
I am going Skiing; does this policy cover winter sports?
The Freedom policy does not cover winter sports as standard on a single trip basis but it can be added for an additional premium.
What if I am traveling to more than one country?
If you are traveling to more than one country this is not a problem provided you state the destinations at the time of booking the insurance, if the destinations fall into different categories for example USA and Europe the price will be based on the most expensive area you are traveling to.
How many children can I insure on my family annual travel insurance policy?
You can have up to six children on a family annual policy with Freedom Insurance.
What area do Egypt, the Canary Islands, Morocco and Tunisia come under on your policies?
The Canary Islands, Morocco and Tunisia all fall into the “Europe” area, Egypt falls into our “Rest of the World” area.
What ages do I put down when getting a quote?
Freedom bases all quotes on the age at the time of travel.
Can children aged under 18 be covered on their own policy?
No, anyone under the age of 18 must have a named adult on the policy and must be traveling with them.
What is an excess?
An excess is the first part of each and every claim in which the client would pay – Freedom’s Policy excess is £75 for most sections.
I have a European Health Insurance Card (formerly known as an E111). Do I still need travel insurance?
Yes you do, the EHIC card will ensure you are entitled to the same level of treatment as a citizen of that country, it does not cover cancellation or curtailment and will not cover private medical costs if you are taken to a private hospital.
What hazardous or dangerous activities am I covered for?
