What is Heart Failure?

Heart Failure is the name given when the Heart becomes less capable of pumping blood around the body, Heart Failure is a progressive condition which leads to weakening of the Cardiovascular System and can affect the left side, right side or both sides of the Heart. Depending on which part of the Heart is affected the symptoms can vary:

  • Left Ventricular Failure can lead to fluid building up in the lungs
  • Right Ventricular Failure can lead to fluid building up in other parts of the body such as legs or Liver

Complications of Heart Failure

There are a number of complications that can come with Heart Failure some of which are:

  • Blood clots (Thrombosis) in the legs or lungs
  • Irregular Heartbeat (Arrhythmia)
  • Depression
  • Leg Ulcers
  • Breathlessness at rest

Heart Failure and Travel Insurance

Heart Failure is a progressive condition, it can be controlled by medication but once the Heart is damaged it cannot be repaired. If you are going on Holiday and have been diagnosed as having Heart Failure you should consider declaring it on your Travel Insurance. If you do not declare the Heart condition you would not be covered for anything related directly or indirectly to the Heart Failure. Heart conditions can come on at any time and the cost of treatment would be considerably higher than the Travel Insurance.
