What is Prostate Cancer?

Prostate Cancer is Cancer which forms on the Prostate, the Prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system so Prostate Cancer only affects men. It is more common in men over the age of 50 but is occasionally diagnosed in younger men. Men with close male relatives that have had Prostate Cancer are more likely to develop the condition themselves at some point although this only accounts for a small percent of Prostate Cancer.

In most cases Prostate Cancer is relatively slow growing but it can also be aggressive, depending on the severity of the Cancer there are different treatments available. The more common treatments are:

  • Total removal of the Prostate gland
  • Radiotherapy
  • Hormone Therapy

Some symptoms which can be associated with Prostate Cancer include:

  • Trouble passing urine
  • Pain while passing urine
  • Blood in the urine
  • Passing urine more frequently
