Information about Skin Cancer

Skin Cancer is the most common form of Cancer in humans and can normally be spotted by a change in the appearance of skin. There are three main types of Skin Cancer these are Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Melanoma.

Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common of the three Skin Cancers and is most common on the face. One major cause of Basal Cell Carcinoma is prolonged exposure to the sun. This form of Skin Cancer very rarely spreads to other parts of the body but can cause damage if left untreated.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma is a Cancer which originates in the Squamous Cells as with Basal Cell Carcinoma a major cause of Squamous Cell Carcinoma is prolonged exposure to the sun. If this type of Skin Cancer spreads it is most likely to spread to deeper areas of the skin but can spread to lymph nodes and sometimes other organs.

Melanoma is the most serious form of Skin Cancer and originates in skin cells known as melanocytes the first sign of a Melanoma is usually a change in the appearance or size of a mole. Melanoma’s can appear any where on the body so you should routinely check your skin for any changes.

Skin Cancer and Travel Insurance

Most Skin cancers will not affect the price of Travel Insurance particularly if it has been removed or well treated, with this in mind there is no reason why you shouldn’t declare a Skin Cancer when taking out a Travel Insurance Policy. Once you have declared a condition and it has been accepted by the insurer you are fully covered for anything related to that condition which would include recurrences. This means that if anything was to occur due to the Skin Cancer you wouldn’t have to pay foreign Hospital bills yourself which can soon mount up depending on the country you are in.
