Why Buy Insurance For a UK Trip?
You may ask yourself why, as a UK resident, you should take out travel insurance for holidays and trips within England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. What would you possibly need to claim for? After all, you are not going abroad and the National Health Service (NHS) applies should you become unwell or have an accident. Actually, there are a few good reasons:
The best and most common reason to take out UK travel insurance is to protect against cancellation and curtailment. You may be planning a self-catering holiday and renting accommodation or perhaps booking into a hotel. You may also have some travel expenses like train or coach tickets and possibly pre-paid admission costs for various attractions you wish to visit during your UK break. The point is, should you have to cancel or cut your holiday short (terms and conditions apply) you can claim for out of pocket expenses. Do make sure to keep all receipts as you will be asked to provide them in the event of a claim.
There are a few other benefits of taking out UK trip insurance such as, cover for baggage and travel delay, particularly useful if taking a UK flight. Freedom’s UK travel insurance policies are also designed to cover emergency medical expenses and repatriation should you be visiting one of the UK’s many outlying islands and need to be flown to the mainland.
If you're opting for a 'Staycation' choose Freedom's travel insurance for peace of mind during your UK break.
Do You Need UK Holiday Insurance?
You may be staying with friends or family and not have any accommodation or travel costs and although we would love to sell you travel insurance, we prefer to be honest and say, you may not actually need it! Bear in mind, the excess on a Freedom policy is £75 and if your holiday is not costing more than this, then realistically, there will be nothing or very little to claim back should you need to cancel. It is a case of weighing up the cost of your holiday, against the cost of travel insurance and the excess should you need to make a claim.
