It is especially important if you live with pre-existing medical conditions to make sure you are fully covered. Travel insurance is all about protecting you on holiday.

In association with the ‘Know Before You Go’ Campaign, we are working with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) to do all that we can to help British travellers stay safe overseas. Click here to view pre-departure advice.

We are members of the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA), membership number 007193 and Association of Travel Insurance Intermediaries (ATII).

The FCO suggest that you should carefully read the cover details of a travel insurance policy before taking one out and recommend that they include:

  •          24 hour medical assistance
  •          Cancellation or curtailment
  •          Medical expenses cover

Freedoms policies are designed to include cover for declared pre-existing medical conditions and will protect you, subject to policy terms and conditions:

  • Replacement of Lost Medication - Up to £200

It is especially important if you live with pre-existing medical conditions to make sure you are fully covered. Travel insurance is all about protecting you on holiday.

It can be easy to forget medical conditions that are well managed and have little impact on your daily living. Tell us about them and any medication that you are prescribed.

Your travel companion(s) may not have any pre-existing medical condition(s) but should your medical condition(s) cause any complications whilst you are on holiday, they will be entitled to claim under the same terms and conditions as you if they have bought travel insurance through Freedom Insurance Services Ltd.

If you're travelling within the European Economic Area you can apply for a European Health Insurance Card free of charge at Click here to apply.  An EHIC entitles you to free or reduced cost state healthcare for medical treatment that becomes necessary during your trip, for example because of illness or an accident. But you will still need comprehensive travel insurance as the EHIC only covers EU state hospital treatment. It isn't accepted in private clinics and doesn't include any repatriation cover.

Spain, Cyprus and the Canary Islands

These countries provide a high level of private health cover. You must present your EHIC before you receive treatment at a state run hospital, otherwise you may be treated as a private patient. It’s recommended that you never rely on an EHIC alone and that you take out the necessary medical travel insurance cover to protect you should you require medical assistance.

The EHIC does not cover, amongst other things certain medical procedures, X-rays and importantly it will not repatriate you to the UK if this becomes necessary.

USA, Canada and the Caribbean

Travel insurance is obtainable for these areas, be aware however, it can sometimes be difficult and often costly to obtain travel insurance to cover pre-existing medical conditions. Medical expenses and repatriation can be very expensive.

Please note we can only cover pre-existing medical conditions that have been declared and cover has been agreed in writing. If you have conditions that you take medication for or have received treatment for (including surgery, tests or investigations) then these will need to be declared to us.

Please tell us about any medication that you are prescribed.

Freedom Travel Insurance will not cover you if you choose to travel against the advice of a medical practitioner.
