Introducing OK To Travel’s New Standard Tier Policy

Looking for straightforward travel insurance that covers medical emergencies abroad? OK To Travel's Standard tier has just been reintroduced - here's what it includes and whether it could be right for your next trip.

Who are OK To Travel?

OK To Travel is a specialist travel insurance product for people with pre-existing medical conditions, with no upper age limit. As part of Freedom’s panel of travel insurance products, it’s built around the belief that having a medical condition shouldn’t prevent anyone from enjoying the freedom to travel.

So, what is the Standard Tier?

Think of it as the straightforward option. It’s designed to cover the essentials when you’re travelling abroad, without the added cost of features you might not need for every trip.

Here’s what’s included, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy:

  •  Emergency medical cover abroad – including your declared pre-existing conditions
  • Baggage cover for your belongings while you’re away

What doesn’t the Standard Tier cover?

It’s just as important to know what isn’t included, so you can decide whether this tier is right for your trip:

  • Cancellation or cutting your trip short
  • Travel delays or missed departures
  • Trip abandonment
  • Lost passport or medication
  • Legal expenses
  • Cruise or winter sports cover

One more thing worth knowing, if you choose an Annual Multi-Trip policy on this tier, individual trips are covered for up to 17 days each and cannot be extended.

Is the Standard Tier right for me?

It could be a good fit if you:

  • Tend to book shorter or last-minute trips where cancellation cover feels less essential
  • You want medical protection abroad without paying for features you don’t need
  • Are not planning a cruise or ski holiday

If you’re booking well in advance, or a cruise or ski trip is on the cards, it’s worth considering one of the higher tiers, which offer broader protection. We’d always encourage you to think carefully about which level of cover is right for your individual circumstances before you buy and our friendly contact centre team are available should you have any questions.

Does it cover my medical conditions?

Because OK To Travel is built for travellers with pre-existing conditions, your declared conditions can be included in your cover – but only if you declare them. This is really important. You must tell us about all of your medical conditions when you get your quote. Failure to disclose relevant medical information could affect the validity of your cover and your ability to make a claim. So it’s important that you don’t skip this step.
