Travel Insurance with Pre-Existing Medical Conditions Is Now Simpler Than Ever

Declaring your medical history is now quicker and clearer - making it easier to get the cover you need.

Changes to How Medical Conditions Are Declared

We’ve recently updated the way we ask about pre-existing medical conditions when you apply for a travel insurance quote. Instead of reviewing your full medical history, we now focus on the past five years only. This makes the process more straightforward and, in many cases, much easier to complete.

When you request a quote for travel insurance that covers medical conditions, you’ll now be guided through clear, simple questions relating solely to the last five years.

Why This Is Important for Travellers with Medical Conditions

This update can make a meaningful difference for people seeking travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions, especially if you’ve experienced health issues in the past that no longer affect you.

For instance, if you had asthma as a child but haven’t required treatment for many years, or if you experienced depression more than a decade ago that is now well managed, you may no longer need to declare these as pre-existing conditions.

Because fewer conditions may need to be disclosed, many travellers could benefit from lower premiums. This is particularly advantageous if you’re considering annual multi-trip travel insurance with pre-existing medical conditions, as the savings can quickly add up when you’re no longer paying extra for historic health issues that don’t impact your current wellbeing.

That said, any ongoing medical conditions that still require treatment, medication or regular monitoring, such as diabetes or controlled high blood pressure, will still need to be declared if they fall within the five-year timeframe.

What If You Already Have Travel Insurance with Medical Conditions Declared?

If you’re making changes to an existing travel insurance policy, any pre-existing medical conditions you previously disclosed will remain on your policy, even if they now fall outside the new five-year period. This ensures your cover continues to reflect what was originally declared.

When you next take out travel insurance, you’ll simply need to answer the updated medical screening questions as accurately and honestly as possible.

Choosing the Right Travel Insurance for Your Medical Needs

Regardless of your travel insurance needs, we offer a comprehensive range of policies that are easy to compare. We aim to make the insurance side simple, so you can focus on the exciting part – planning your trip.

These clearer medical screening questions mean quicker quotes, less uncertainty about which pre-existing conditions to declare, more accurate medical cover, the potential for lower premiums, and added peace of mind when you travel.
