What makes early summer the best time to travel?
There’s a reason people love travelling at the start of summer instead of waiting until later on. Everything still feels calm.
The beaches aren’t completely overcrowded yet, restaurants are easier to get into, and airports somehow feel slightly less chaotic. You still get the sunshine and atmosphere without feeling like the entire world had the exact same holiday idea as you.
It’s that sweet spot where summer feels exciting instead of overwhelming.
What kind of summer trips are people booking right now?
At this time of year, most of us aren’t really chasing big, complicated holidays with packed itineraries and early morning transfers. It’s more about getting out of routine for a bit and keeping things simple.
Think a long weekend on the coast in places like Cornwall or the Norfolk coast, where the plan is basically just beach walks, fish and chips, and a slow morning coffee looking out at the sea. Or a short city break to somewhere like Lisbon, Barcelona, or Budapest, where you can spend your days wandering, eating well, and sitting outside late into the evening.
Some people are leaning towards countryside escapes too, a cosy cottage in the Lake District or the Cotswolds, where the biggest decision of the day is which walk to go on or which pub to stop at on the way back.
That’s what makes these trips work. They’re not over planned or over thought. Just simple, easy escapes where you switch off a bit and enjoy being somewhere different.
Why is now the best time to plan a summer getaway?
Every year we tell ourselves summer is going to last forever, and every year it somehow flies by before we’ve really made the most of it. One minute you’re enjoying the first warm weekend, and the next you’re wondering where August went. That’s exactly why this moment, right at the start of the summer, feels like the best time to actually plan something, instead of pushing it off with a “maybe later” that usually turns into not going at all.
Even if it’s just a short escape, a couple of nights away can make a bigger difference than you’d expect. A change of scenery, a bit of sunshine, and a break from the usual routine is often enough to properly switch off and feel like summer has actually begun, rather than just passing you by.
So, are you feeling ready to finally book that holiday? Before you go ahead, make sure you’ve arranged your travel insurance. It only takes a moment to get a quote and compare your options, and it can make a big difference if plans change or something unexpected comes up.
Safe travels,
