Whether high or stable, Freedom can provide travel insurance cover for those prescribed with blood pressure medication.
Blood pressure, often referred to as hypertension, is a term used to describe the strength with which your blood pushes on the sides of your arteries as it’s pumped around your body.
We understand that your blood pressure may not currently be raised and that medication is often prescribed as a preventative due to age or in relation to heart conditions. However, it’s important that you always declare high blood pressure if you have a specific medication to maintain or control your blood pressure level to make sure you’re fully covered if you suffer a related complication such as a heart attack.
Freedom has taken all scenarios into consideration when developing a fully comprehensive travel insurance high blood pressure policy. Even if you’ve never suffered with heart problems but were to develop a heart condition after purchasing your policy or whilst abroad, cover is provided for emergency medical treatment and cancellation cover of your trip. This ensures you’re protected in the event of a medical emergency abroad.
Blood pressure can be raised but can also be precautionary. This may be due to age or previous health circumstances such as diabetes, heart attacks, angina or strokes. Even if your blood pressure and cholesterol has never been raised, it’s important that you always declare your condition whilst it falls into our medical declaration so that we have it on record in the event of a claim. In these cases, high blood pressure is treated as a pre-existing medical condition and is assessed as part of your medical history.
Our prices are based on a person’s current state of health at the time of taking out a policy and our medical screening process gives us an indication of the severity of your condition. If you have high blood pressure and cholesterol or any of the related conditions including persistent high blood pressure we’ll tailor a policy that specifically meets your individual needs, making sure you have the right level of cover for your trip. Our cover also covers high blood pressure where declared, giving you peace of mind if anything changes while you’re away and helping protect you from unexpected medical costs.
By taking your medical history into account we ensure that high blood pressure is considered in the context of your wider health profile, offering more accurate and appropriate cover, at the best price. With Freedom, you can feel confident that your high blood pressure is considered every step of the way and that you won’t face any additional cost surprises if something unexpected happens.
You can apply here online or over the telephone. It’s quick, simple and totally confidential. To provide you with a quote, you’ll need to let us know where you’re travelling to and for how long. Make sure to declare your blood pressure and any other pre-existing medical condition that applies to you and anyone else named on the policy.
You’ll be guided through a medical screening questionnaire where a series of relevant questions will be asked to assess your health and each individual condition. These questions should be answered accurately and to the best of your knowledge. You’ll then be presented with available policy options which include cover for declared medical conditions as well as cover for cancellation, baggage, personal accident and lots more.
While the information we need about your blood pressure is very small, if at any point you’d rather speak to someone don’t hesitate to call us. We’re always happy to help. Whether it’s for peace of mind or to make sure you’ve got the right travel insurance high blood pressure cover, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Some of our most frequently asked questions.
Yes, you’ll need to declare any conditions including blood pressure if you’re taking prescribed medication for it, although the effect of having blood pressure medicines may not affect your premium. Declaring your condition ensures you’re fully covered in the event of any medical emergencies while abroad.
It’s always better to have more than you need rather than running short. Request a prescription for additional medication in case of delays, loss or theft and always keep some in your hand luggage so that it’s easily accessible especially in the event of medical emergencies where quick access may be vital.
Blood pressure, often referred to as hypertension, is a term used to describe the strength with which your blood pushes on the sides of your arteries as it’s pumped around your body. It’s important that your blood pressure is kept under control as high blood pressure can cause heart related problems and increase the risk of medical emergencies.
