Travel Insurance for People With Chronic Kidney Disease

More than 1.8 million people in England live with chronic kidney disease (CKD), a serious condition that should always be disclosed when purchasing travel insurance. Our policies are built with care and insight, offering cover for a wide range of medical conditions including kidney-related illnesses so you’re protected if things don’t go to plan.

If you’re on dialysis, it’s essential to make arrangements for treatment at your destination before travelling. Your renal unit or doctor can often help with this. Please note, unless it’s required as emergency treatment, routine dialysis abroad isn’t covered by travel insurance.

If you’re waiting for a kidney transplant, your hospital will usually pause your place on the list while you’re away. However, if you’re called for surgery while abroad, the cancellation wouldn’t be covered by travel insurance. We also can’t insure anyone travelling against medical advice but we’re happy to talk through your options and help you find a policy that works for your situation.

Fair, Flexible Travel Insurance for Kidney Patients

Standard travel policies often don’t include cover for kidney conditions so it’s important to declare all pre-existing conditions including related issues such as high blood pressure or diabetes when you apply.

At Freedom, we aim to make the process simple. Whether you apply online or by phone, our friendly team will guide you through a medical screening designed to assess your medical conditions, current health and any prescribed medication you’re taking.

By tailoring your policy to your needs, we’ll make sure you’ve got the right level of travel insurance for your trip, from single trips to annual cover. We understand how important it is to feel reassured so we provide the support and clarity you deserve.

We’re proud to work with the PKD Charity which supports families and individuals affected by polycystic kidney disease. When you quote ‘PKD’ while buying your policy online or by phone, Freedom will make a donation to the charity at no cost to you.

How to Apply for Travel Insurance With Kidney Disease

Getting a quote is quick, secure and confidential. Whether you’ve got chronic kidney disease, you’re on dialysis or you’re taking prescribed medication, we’re here to help.

We’ll ask:

  • Where you’re travelling to
  • How long you’re going for
  • Details about any pre-existing conditions and other medical conditions for you and anyone else on the policy

You’ll complete a short medical screening with a few health-related questions. Once that’s done, you’ll see policy options that include cover for your declared conditions, cancellations, baggage, emergency repatriation and more.

If you’re looking for travel insurance that understands kidney conditions, Freedom’s here to help.
