Kidney Disease Travel Insurance

Designed for people with kidney related medical conditions by medical travel insurance experts.

Travel and holiday insurance for people with kidney conditions

More than 1.8 million people in England have been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and it is certainly something that you should mention to your insurance provider. The Freedom policy accounts for many scenarios, due to a sudden change in medical circumstances resulting in emergency hospital treatment to the cancellation of a planned trip.

If you’re on dialysis, you will need to arrange to have it when abroad and normally; the renal unit at the hospital or your doctor can help with this. Please beware, the cost to receive dialysis, other than as emergency treatment, will not be covered by a Freedom policy.

For those of you that are on a waiting list for a kidney transplant, you will need to inform the hospital, who will remove you from the list for the period of time you are due to be away. Freedom cannot cover patients travelling against a doctor’s advice or the cost to cancel or cut a holiday short should you remain on the list and be called up because a kidney becomes available.

Kidney disease travel and holiday insurance at a fair price

Kidney related conditions are not automatically covered by travel insurance policies, so it’s important that you declare it and any other medical conditions you have been diagnosed with. Patients can apply for Freedom’s cover online or if you prefer to talk to someone, we have a friendly and experienced team of travel insurance agent who can help guide you through the process.

Our prices are based on a patient’s current state of health at the time of taking out a policy, so if you live with kidney disease we will tailor a policy that specifically meets your individual needs, making sure you have the right level of cover for your trip.

FAQs

Some of our most frequently asked questions.

  • Can I travel with chronic kidney disease requiring dialysis?

Providing you’re fit to travel, we can look into providing cover for your trip. If you are travelling abroad and you are on dialysis you need to make prior arrangements for your treatment. Please view the page from Kidney UK which explains what you need to do.

  • Can I get annual policy if I have chronic kidney disease?

If your kidney disease is stage 2/3 and you are not on dialysis then we can have a look at an annual quotation. It would also be worth considering a single trip policy as the quotation and medical screening is then based on where you actually travelling to.

  • I am on a waiting list for a kidney transplant, if a kidney became available would I be covered to cancel my holiday?

No, as you were already on a waiting list at the time of taking out the policy we would not cover you for cancellation of your trip. However, we can look into offering you a policy that would cover you for any unforeseen reason to cancel your trip linked to your kidney disease even while awaiting a transplant.
