Myeloma Travel Insurance

A myeloma diagnosis shouldn’t mean giving up on the joy of travel. At Freedom, we have been helping people living with multiple myeloma to secure travel insurance for over 20 years, because we believe everyone deserves the confidence to explore the world. We are also proud to support the invaluable work of Myeloma UK, providing guidance and support for those affected.

Multiple Myeloma Travel Insurance

Travel and holiday insurance for people with multiple Myeloma

Each year around 6,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with myeloma. You may be one of them but that shouldn’t stop you from planning your next adventure. Whether you are heading for sunshine, sightseeing or relaxation, our comprehensive cover includes cancer-related medical expenses so you can focus on making memories not worrying about what ifs.

If your treatment has involved chemotherapy, radiotherapy, a stem cell or bone marrow transplant or surgery, we will work with you to create a policy that meets your needs. We know that finding travel insurance while undergoing treatment can be challenging but we also know how important it is. That’s why we won’t penalise you for taking preventative medications such as steroids that may cause insomnia, stomach discomfort or a higher risk of infection.

Comprehensive Cover When You Need It Most

With myeloma, remission can be unpredictable and symptoms like fatigue, bone pain or infections can appear unexpectedly, especially with a weakened immune system. Our policies ensure that if your health changes before or during your trip, you are fully covered for emergency medical care or trip cancellations.

We’ll work with you to create a tailored insurance plan for every trip, whether you are relaxing on Portugal’s golden shores or exploring the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef.

Specialist Myeloma travel insurance - fair, reliable and tailored to you

Finding travel insurance when living with multiple myeloma can feel overwhelming especially when other insurers turn you away. At Freedom we do things differently. With over 20 years of experience we take the time to understand your unique health needs whether you are undergoing treatment or in remission so we can provide a fair and comprehensive policy that gives you the confidence to travel.

We recognise that myeloma treatment is often highly effective in managing the disease and relieving symptoms. However we also understand that it can bring side effects such as fatigue, muscle weakness or insomnia. That’s why we work with you to create a policy that reflects your current health ensuring you have the right level of protection for your trip.

If your condition changes and you need to cancel your holiday or require emergency medical assistance abroad you can travel with complete peace of mind knowing we have got you covered every step of the way.

Applying for travel and holiday insurance with multiple Myeloma

You can apply online or over the phone. It is quick, simple and completely confidential. To provide you with a quote, we just need to know where you are travelling to and for how long.

Make sure to declare your multiple myeloma and any other pre-existing medical conditions that apply to you or anyone else on the policy. You’ll be guided through a medical screening questionnaire, where we’ll ask a series of relevant questions to assess your health. Answer accurately and to the best of your knowledge so we can offer you the most suitable cover.

Once completed, you’ll be presented with available policy options, which include cover for declared medical conditions, as well as protection for cancellation, baggage, personal accident and more.

FAQs

Some of our most frequently asked questions.

  • Can I get travel insurance if I am currently undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma?

Yes, Freedom specialises in providing travel insurance for those undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma. Whether you’re receiving chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or recovering from a stem cell or bone marrow transplant, we aim to tailor a policy that meets your needs.

  • Do I need to declare all medications and treatments for myeloma?

Yes, it’s essential to declare all medications and treatments, including preventative medications such as steroids. This ensures your policy covers any complications that may arise related to your multiple myeloma or its treatment.

  • What happens if I experience symptoms of myeloma, like bone pain or fatigue, while on holiday?

If symptoms of multiple myeloma arise during your trip, your Freedom policy will cover emergency medical expenses and related trip cancellations. This ensures you can travel with peace of mind, knowing you’re protected.

  • How are premiums calculated for myeloma travel insurance?

Our premiums are based on your current state of health at the time of application. We consider factors like your treatment history, medication, and overall health to offer fair pricing and comprehensive cover.

  • Can I travel after a bone marrow transplant?

Yes, but it is important to check with your doctor before making any travel plans. A bone marrow transplant can temporarily weaken the immune system, increasing the risk of infection, especially in crowded places or countries with limited healthcare facilities. Your doctor will assess your recovery and any relevant risk factors to advise on safe travel.

  • Will my policy cover emergency treatment if I need medical assistance while travelling?

Yes, as long as you have declared all pre-existing medical conditions. If you experience symptoms related to multiple myeloma or require emergency medical treatment during your trip, your policy will cover eligible expenses. If you are unsure about what is included, our team can guide you through your policy options.

  • Does Freedom insurance cover side effects from cancer treatment?

Yes. If you experience fatigue, bone pain, weakened immune response or other side effects from your myeloma treatment, our policy ensures you have access to emergency medical support while abroad. Your doctor can help determine the best treatment plan for your condition and our insurance is designed to support you should any complications arise while travelling.

  • Am I at increased risk when flying with multiple myeloma?

If you have multiple myeloma, it is important to speak with your doctor before flying, particularly if you have recently received treatment or have additional health concerns. They will consider your medical history and other factors before advising on whether air travel is suitable for you.

  • Can I get travel insurance if I also have skin cancer?

Yes. We can provide cover for multiple myeloma and skin cancer, including non melanoma skin cancers, squamous cell skin cancer, squamous cell cancers and basal cell carcinoma, as long as they are declared during the medical screening process.
