Travel and holiday insurance if you or your travelling companion have been diagnosed with parkinson’s disease.
At Freedom, we specialise in covering pre-existing medical conditions, including parkinson’s disease. If you, or your travelling companion have been diagnosed with parkinson’s of any severity, it’s important to make sure you are fully covered when travelling in the UK, Europe and worldwide.
Around 1 in 20 people with parkinson’s will experience symptoms when they are under the age of 40 and with an estimated 1 in 500 people being affected by the condition, it is a lot more common than you might think for us to provide a specialist travel insurance policy. Providing you are comfortable travelling and have all necessary support, we don’t believe this condition should put a stop to your international adventures!
If you’re travelling with friends or family you can also elect to add them onto the same specialist travel insurance policy so that if any trip complications were to arise relating to either person, everyone on the policy would be covered to claim for this. This would include claims for cancellation of the trip or emergency medical treatment abroad whether it’s related to parkinson’s or another unrelated medical condition.
We have specialised in covering pre-existing medical conditions since 2002 and understand the importance of obtaining an adequate policy when travelling with Parkinson’s. Whilst there is no cure for the condition, treatments including physiotherapy, medication and occupational therapy are available and we will account for this by asking you to complete a medical screening. We’ll ask relevant questions to assess your condition including whether you’ve been diagnosed with dementia, use any mobility aids or require any additional support with eating, dressing or washing.
Our insurance prices for parkinson’s is based on a person’s current state of health at the time of taking out a policy, but it is always important to declare your diagnosis and any other conditions to ensure that we have all the required information in the event of a claim.

To provide you with a quote, you’ll need to let us know where you are travelling to, and for how long. If you are an after stroke survivor you should ensure to declare your condition and any other pre-existing medical conditions that apply to you and anyone else on the policy.
You will be guided through a medical screening questionnaire, where a series of relevant questions will be asked to assess your health. These questions should be answered accurately and to the best of your knowledge. You will then be presented with available policy options, which include cover for declared medical conditions as well as cover for cancellation, baggage, personal accident and lots more.
Freedom has three levels of cover, the cover limit depends on the cover level selected. Benefits are per person, per trip.

Yes you do our whole aim is to cover you fully, if you do not declare all of your pre-existing medical conditions then you will not be fully covered in the event of a claim and risk invalidating your insurance.
Our policies are available to you if you are permanently resident in the United Kingdom (UK) and registered with a general practitioner (GP) in the UK.
Generally, Freedom is unable to offer cover for people on a waiting list for surgery but there are exceptions to the rule. Talk to the Freedom Call Centre on 01223 446 914 where we can look if there are any options available , it may be that we can find you a policy that excludes cover for the medical condition relating to the pending surgery.
