Stroke Travel Insurance

Stroke, cerebrovascular accident, TIA, mini stroke, brain haemorrhage – whatever the diagnosis, look to Freedom to provide a travel insurance policy

Travel and holiday insurance for people following a stroke

The severity of a stroke varies massively, some occur without your knowledge, others cause ongoing and potentially life changing symptoms. If your doctor has cleared you to travel, Freedom can consider a travel insurance policy for after stroke survivors.

To cover all eventualities, we will consider potential effects of your stroke, whether this is a mobility issue or a heart condition such as atrial fibrillation. If you have declared your condition to us and suffer a deterioration to your health before you travel, or a fall during your trip due to muscle weakness or fatigue, you can rest assured that Freedom have got your medical expenses or trip cancellation covered.

If you’re travelling with friends or family you can also elect to add them onto the same specialist travel insurance policy so that if any trip complications were to arise relating to either person, everyone on the policy would be covered to claim for this. This would include claims for cancellation of the trip or emergency medical treatment abroad whether it’s related to the stroke or another unrelated medical condition.

Stroke travel and holiday insurance at a fair price

It can be advisable to obtain a travel insurance for after stroke survivors quote prior to booking your trip, as depending on the destination there can be a large variation in premiums. Freedom specialise in covering pre-existing medical conditions and do not want to penalise travellers for conditions that are well managed and under control. It’s important to tell us about your stroke and any relating treatment, such as blood thinners, blood pressure or cholesterol medication to ensure you are fully covered in the event of a claim.

Our insurance prices for after stroke survivors are based on a person’s current state of health at the time of taking out a policy, but it is always important survivors declare their stroke and any other diagnosed conditions to ensure that we have all the required information in the event of a claim.

FAQs

Some of our most frequently asked questions.

  • How long should I sensibly wait to travel after having a stoke?

If you had a recent stroke you should always check with consultant/GP that you are fit to travel. Most airlines would require you to wait 30 days after your stroke and your symptoms to be stabilised before travelling.

  • My GP has advised that I had a TIA and not a stroke. how would I screen a TIA?

On our medical screening system you can enter TIA which will then be rated on this basis instead of a stroke.

  • Can I get travel insurance after having a stroke?

Where you are travelling to after having a recent stroke can have a huge impact on the premium, please feel free to contact us on 01223 446 914 we can then go through quotations for different destinations which may assist you on where to travel to.
