Travelling abroad can be a daunting prospect for many, and even more so if you suffer from a mental health condition. We understand that mental health is a broad term which covers a number of psychological conditions, which are often well controlled through treatment such as medication, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and counselling among others. We ask sensitive and appropriate medical questions to capture your diagnosis and treatment, so whether you are travelling within the UK, to Europe or Worldwide, you can look to Freedom to provide a fully comprehensive travel insurance policy including cover for your pre-existing medical condition.

Applying for travel insurance with pre-existing medical conditions

You can apply here online or over the telephone; it’s quick, simple and totally confidential. To provide you with a quote, you’ll need to let us know where you are travelling to, and for how long. Make sure to declare all your pre-existing medical conditions for all travellers.

You will be guided through a medical screening questionnaire, where a series of relevant questions will be asked to assess your health and each individual condition. These questions should be answered accurately and to the best of your knowledge.

You will then be presented with available policy options, which include cover for declared medical conditions as well as cover for cancellation, baggage, personal accident and lots more.

Medical travel insurance frequently asked questions

It all depends when you need the cover to start. Applying for travel insurance once you have finished treatment could, in some circumstances, reduce the premium and make the cover easier to obtain. However, if you need the cover to start whilst you are still receiving treatment because you have a holiday booked and need cover for cancellation, you will need to declare the treatment and we will quote accordingly.

We use a medical risk assessment tool to enable us to provide you with a quote. You will be asked a number of questions about your medical status. From the information provided we will base our quotes on your health status.

We do not need the names of the medication or the dosage. What we do need to know are the names of the diagnosed medical conditions for which you are prescribed medication. If you are unsure of this please consult your doctor.
