An estimated 21 million adults in the UK suffer from at least one allergy (Mintel, 2010). In the week commencing 28 April, Allergy UK will raise awareness as part of Allergy Awareness Week. In support of this, we look at the main benefits of purchasing travel insurance cover for asthma.
One in five households there is someone who suffers with asthma, that’s more than 5.2 million people in the UK. It’s difficult to know what triggers asthma but we know that the main causes may include one or more of the following:
• one or both of your parents have it
• changes in housing and diet
• exposure to cigarette smoke
• irritants such as chemicals, dust and environmental pollution.
Symptoms can range from mild to severe, including breathlessness, a tight chest, wheezing, coughing and attacks. Severe asthma attacks can be very distressing, usually developing slowly but for some, these symptoms can be more rapid. If you notice any of these signs, contact your GP or asthma clinic. If in any doubt, seek immediate help.
