Portugal voted top ten best value for holiday destinations

Situated in the Iberian Peninsula on the Atlantic Ocean, Lisbon is the largest city of Portugal. With great transport links, the airport welcomed over 18 million passengers to the city last year. Generally, the summer season runs from May to October and can reach temperatures of up to 25 centigrade.

With an impressive mix of architecture, there is plenty to do in Lisbon. The Cathedral ‘Sé de Lisboa’ dates back to 1150 and it is said that Saint Anthony of Padua was baptised in the font here. After you’ve hit the shops at El Corte Ingles visit the Parque Eduardo VII for a picnic. This hidden gem offers some speculator panoramic views over the city. For anyone who is into opera, visit the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos opera house where one the best soprano singers of the 20th century, Maria Callas performed in Verdi’s tragic opera La traviata.
