FCO travel advice advising against all but essential air travel to Sharm el Sheikh

Following the change in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) travel advice advising against all but essential air travel to Sharm el Sheikh, a number of airlines and tour operators have cancelled all outbound flights to Sharm el Sheikh.

The majority of customers travelling to Sharm El Sheikh will be on a package holiday.  These customers will be compensated by the tour operator for either:

  •          A full refund of their holiday cost if they have not travelled; or
  •          Additional accommodation and alternative travel costs if they are currently in the resort.

Package holiday customers may have some additional costs which they cannot obtain a refund for from their tour operator such as airport parking.  Where they have Travel Disruption Cover on their policy then this will cover for these additional costs providing:

  •          They purchased cover, and booked their trip, before the 5th November 2015; and
  •          The flight they were due to take has been cancelled by their airline.

For the minority of customers who are due to travel independently to Sharm El Sheikh then they should receive a full refund of their flights costs from their airline.  Where the customer has Travel Disruption Cover on their policy, then this will cover them for any irrecoverable accommodation costs and other additional costs such as airport parking providing:

  •          They purchased cover, and booked their trip, before the 5th November 2015; and
  •          The flight they were due to take has been cancelled by their airline.
