If you purchase travel insurance after your trip has already begun, there is a short waiting period before cover fully takes effect. This waiting period is 48 hours from the date of purchase or from the start date of the policy, whichever is later. However, if you do experience a serious injury due to an accident, emergency cover can apply from the moment you purchase the policy – provided the incident is witnessed and verified by an independent third party. An independent witness is someone who is not directly involved in the insured event, is not related to any of the parties, and has no connection to the claim. Their statement must be clear, accurate, and unbiased to be considered valid.
