Are you travelling to the USA?

Whether you’re planning a family holiday to Florida or travelling for the 2026 World Cup, having the right travel insurance for the USA is essential. If you are travelling to the USA for the 2026 World Cup, (11th June – 19th July 2026), the UK government highlights several factors that can affect your trip:

  • Very high demand for accommodation – plan ahead to secure your stay
  • Busy transport routes and longer journey times, especially on match days
  • Crowded cities and tourist destinations across host locations

Freedom offers comprehensive USA travel insurance tailored to UK travellers with pre-existing medical conditions. Cover includes emergency medical expenses, pre-existing medical conditions, trip cancellation, baggage cover and round-the-clock emergency assistance.

What does USA travel insurance include?

If you’re travelling to the USA during the 2026 World Cup, having the right travel insurance in place is highly important.

The United States does not provide free healthcare for visitors, so even a minor injury or illness could result in high medical costs. Travel insurance helps ensure you’re financially protected throughout your trip.

A comprehensive USA travel insurance policy typically includes:

  • Emergency medical expenses – covering treatment, hospital stays, and repatriation if needed
  • Pre-existing medical conditions – subject to medical screening and approval
  • Trip cancellations or delays – protection if your travel plans change
  • Lost, stolen, or delayed baggage – useful when moving between cities or flights
  • 24/7 emergency assistance – support whenever you need it abroad

For those planning trips around major events like the 2026 World Cup, policies can often be tailored to suit different travel needs, whether you’re taking a single trip or multiple journeys over the year.

Can I get travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions?

Many UK travellers have ongoing health needs, and it’s important these are covered when visiting the USA, especially if you’re travelling during a major event like the 2026 World Cup.

Freedom offers travel insurance that can include cover for a wide range of pre-existing medical conditions., subject to a short medical screening process. You’ll typically be asked a few straightforward questions about your medical history so the policy can be tailored to your needs. It’s essential to declare all pre-existing conditions when getting a quote. If anything is left out, your policy could be invalid, and claims may be refused.

Do UK residents need a visa for the USA?

Most UK passport holders will need either an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) or a US visa before travelling to the United States. This must be arranged before departure, as entry requirements are strictly enforced. Travel insurance does not replace the need for the correct travel documents, but it does provide important financial protection during your stay. Before travelling, always check the latest US entry requirements using official government sources to ensure you have the correct documentation in place. Please check the FCDO travel advice for more information.

FAQs

Some of our most frequently asked questions.

Who is eligible to purchase cover with Freedom insurance?

Our travel insurance products are available to permanent UK residents who are registered with a GP in the UK. Some of our products can also cover residents of the Channel Islands or Isle of Man. You need to be fit to travel at the time of purchasing travel insurance cover.

We use a medical risk assessment tool to enable us to provide you with a quote. You will be asked a number of questions about your medical status. From the information provided we will base our quotes on your health status.

Yes. Our aim is to cover you fully, if you do not declare all of your pre-existing medical conditions then you will not be fully covered in the event of a claim and risk invalidating your insurance.

As we operate an on-going medical warranty, you will need to inform us of any health changes that occur between your quotation/purchase date and the date of travel. We may be required to ask additional questions to ensure your travel insurance is up to date and fully covering you for the trip.

We cover you from the time you start your trip right up until the day you return back to the UK, (except for cancellation cover which starts when you buy the policy and ends when you start your trip).

We accept all major debit and credit cards including American Express. You can make payment online during the customer quote journey, or by calling the Freedom team on 01223 454 290.

We’ll consider cover for people while they are receiving medical treatment including chemotherapy. We base all our quotes on individual circumstances. However, we cannot cover the actual cost of any on-going treatment that you know you will require during the trip, such as dialysis or cancer treatments.
