We base our quotes on your current medical status at the time of taking out your policy. Freedom Travel Insurance is underwritten by AXA Insurance UK plc. Terms, conditions, exclusions and limitations apply. Although we will try to offer a travel insurance solution to every applicant, we can't guarantee a quote for every circumstance.
Travel Insurance For Polycystic Kidney Disease
Freedom’s Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) cover is designed to take care of emergency medical expenses when abroad or if you find yourself in a position where you become unwell and cannot travel, we will cover up to £3,000 per person to cancel the holiday. We cover all the basics too, like loss of baggage, money and personal accidents. Our priority is to make sure our customers travel with the right level of cover and to treat people fairly. To do this, we assess each individual case by conducting a medical screening and base our prices on current health status.
Freedom has no hidden costs, our excess fee is £75 should you need to make a claim and unlike the majority of other travel insurers, we do not operate a ‘change in risk’ clause, so if you do have a change in health status or medication after taking out a Freedom policy, we won’t charge you extra or cancel your policy.

Things to Know When Applying For Cover
Polycystic kidney disease is not a condition automatically covered by travel insurance policies, so it’s important that you declare it and any other medical conditions you have been diagnosed with. You can apply for Freedom’s cover online or if you prefer to talk to someone, we have a friendly and experienced team of travel insurance agent who can help guide you through the process.
To help assess your current health status Freedom is interested to know:
- Has this condition led to any impairment of kidney function?
- Are you on dialysis?
- Have you had a kidney transplant?
- Are you awaiting dialysis or a kidney transplant?
- How many medicines do you take for this condition?
- Have you been referred to a kidney specialist?
- Have you had any bladder or kidney infections in the last 12 months?
If you're on dialysis, you will need to arrange to have it when abroad and normally; the renal unit at the hospital or your doctor can help with this. Please beware, the cost to receive dialysis, other than as emergency treatment, will not be covered by a Freedom policy.
For those of you that are on a waiting list for a kidney transplant, you will need to inform the hospital, who will remove you from the list for the period of time you are due to be away. Freedom cannot cover people travelling against a doctor's advice or the cost to cancel or cut a holiday short should you remain on the list and be called up because a kidney becomes available.
