Lupus has so many relating complications which makes everyone’s experience of the condition completely unique. The Freedom policy takes this into account and will ask questions about kidney, heart and respiratory conditions. Providing your condition has been declared, Freedom will cover you should you require emergency medical treatment whilst abroad. The policy will also cover you for cancellation or curtailment of your trip should you have a change to your health circumstances.
Freedom have been working alongside and providing cover for Lupus UK members for several years. We are signposted on the Lupus UK website, which can be found at www.lupusuk.org.uk
You can help support Lupus UK by quoting ‘LUPUS UK’ when you purchase travel insurance from Freedom to make sure they receive a donation.
Freedom has been providing travel and holiday insurance to people with pre-existing medical conditions for over 20 years!
Lupus is a condition with many triggers, including trauma, exposure to sunlight or following a viral infection but is not infectious nor contagious and is often well controlled through medication. At Freedom Insurance, we are here to give you the peace of mind that your lupus and any relating complications are fully covered.
Our prices are based on a person’s current state of health at the time of taking out a policy, so if you live with lupus or have been diagnosed with relating complications such as kidney, heart or respiratory conditions then we will tailor a policy that specifically meets your individual needs, making sure you have the right level of cover for your trip.
Consider any complications of lupus that you may experience. For example, if you have a breathing condition - pack your inhaler!
Prepare for travel
Planning can reduce stress and ensure that your holiday runs smoothly from start to finish. Choose your destination wisely, travel to a country with good sanitation and obtain information about medical facilities available near your destination
Pack additional medication in case of delay, emergency or theft and devise a health plan in case of emergency. Check with your GP that you are fit to fly and have any appropriate vaccinations to prevent infection
You can apply here online or over the telephone; it’s quick, simple and totally confidential. To provide you with a quote, you’ll need to let us know where you are travelling to, and for how long. Make sure to declare your lupus and any other pre-existing medical conditions that apply to you and anyone else on the policy.
You will be guided through a medical screening questionnaire, where a series of relevant questions will be asked to assess your health. These questions should be answered accurately and to the best of your knowledge. You will then be presented with available policy options, which include cover for declared medical conditions as well as cover for cancellation, baggage, personal accident and lots more.
"Excellent company and great service. I have used Freedom for many years. Peace of mind that we are covered for medical conditions and can enjoy our holiday. Very easy to use, online quotes and staff on the phones are very helpful, thanks."
As the symptoms of lupus can be achy joints and muscles it is important to keep moving as much as possible, especially with long plane journeys to prevent DVTs.
This isn't a problem. By screening your Lupus our medical screening system asks about the types of complications that can be linked to Lupus. You would then at the same time also declare those conditions to be fully covered by the policy.
We can cover for single trips up to 365 days in duration, and also offer annual multi-trip policies. Trip duration may vary depending on age.
